Leslie F, Clinton UT

About Leslie
I live in Clinton, UT with my hubbie, Dave and our menagerie of four dogs and a cat. We have three kids, two boys and a girl. We also have three grandchildren with a fourth grandbaby due in November. I am a freelance writer and currently write a bi-monthly column for Grandparents.com on crafting with grandchildren.

How long have you been making cards?
I’ve made cards for about ten years, mostly as a method to practice some skill I was trying to perfect in scrapbooking.

How long making them for our heroes?
I saw the information about Cards for Heroes in December of ’07 on the Two Peas Message Board and started making cards in earnest for our Heroes in January.

What is your favorite kind of card to make?
My favorite kind of cards to make are those with simple messages like thinking of you or miss you!

Do you have a special technique you love to use?
I don’t have a favorite technique as yet, as I still feel like I’m very much a beginner. I love to work with patterned paper and embellishments and am learning how to use copic markers to color in stamped images.

Are there colors, styles, or products that draw you?
As far as color and product lines I’m pretty eclectic, but am almost always drawn to My Mind’s Eye and Daisy D’s. My current stamp “favs” are Hero Arts and anything hedgehog by Penny Black.

What motivates you to make cards for heroes?
Making these cards is a tangible thank you from myself, (and my family), to these unselfish individuals who are willing to put their lives on the line for our freedom. It is a small gesture, but I always hope that those that receive the cards see beyond the paper and embellishments to the underlying appreciation of their willingness to serve.
