Featured Cardmaker: New shipper Dixie in Charlotte NC!

Welcome Dixie, our new shipper! Her blog is What's Next - you may want to add her to the list of blogs you frequent, look how pretty her cards are!

I'm a native of Charlotte, NC and a recently retired middle school teacher. Now that I have a little time on my hands, I can indulge in my favorite hobbies: traveling abroad, reading, papercrafts, Canasta, photography (amateur), and facebook!

I've been making cards for years, but I just got involved with OWH in June 2009. My inspiration would be my nephew, Soldier Sam. I made cards for him during his first deployment to Iraq in 2007 and 2008. I stumbled across Cards for Heroes (OWH) on an internet message board when I was still teaching, and I put it on my "To Do" list. This summer, it was time to get to the list, so I made cards for OWH every Wednesday at my local scrapbook store. Several others there were intrigued and joined the cause! We sent over 600 Christmas cards!

My card style is usually simple. I have a weakness for patterned paper, any pattern will do. (This is step one in the paperholic recovery program.) I adore Hero Arts stamps and any kind of paper punch. I have not caught the Copic bug. (I didn't go to kindergarten so I don't color well.) For OWH I do multiples after I've spent an hour or so developing the prototype. I stalk several blogs for inspiration, and I'm not ashamed to admit it!

I'm looking forward to the challenge of being a shipper! Sandy and Kris have been so helpful. I hope the talented card makers on the east coast will get in touch and send me some cards! Remember, be patient. I don't know what I'm doing!

Dixie, I'm in Columbia, SC, so I'm working on my first box to send to you. I've only been involved since October, and I love this organization! cb

Welcome Dixie! I'm in South Florida, so it's nice to have a shipper closer to me than the far ends of the country! (Sandy, I love you, but cards will get to North Carolina a lot quicker than to Washington!)

Hello from Connecticut Dixie! Thanks for volunteering to be an OWH shipper on the East Coast. Having a nearby shipper makes participating much easier for me, and many others too I'm sure. Special thanks too, to your nephew Soldier Sam for his service.
